MESSAGE
Your NAVBO colleagues in the Americas have been watching with horror the devastating effects of the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear reactor accidents in Japan. In particular, we are extremely concerned about our colleagues in the Sendai area. Some of us have reached out to them and heard that laboratories have been damaged extensively. We would like you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. As individuals, we have reached out to international aid organizations focused on Japan to help in the recovery efforts to bring some normalcy to affected areas. Our members have expressed concerns about the scientific enterprise in Japan and once the situation on the ground is stable, NAVBO membership in the Americas would like to help. For example, when hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, labs around the US sent reagents to replace what had been destroyed and hosted scientists whose labs were closed.
Please stay in touch, disseminate this information to your colleagues and let us know how we can help.
Warm regards,
William Sessa
