Disseminate Outputs Domestically and Internationally

Tetsuro Watabe

My name is Tetsuro Watabe of Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and I started serving as the President of the Japanese Vascular Biology and Medicine Organization (JVBMO) from April 2022. I served as Vice President under the former President, Dr. Masayuki Yoshida, and I hope to make it two years (four years if reappointed) to further develop the good aspects of JVBMO, which we have developed over the past four years.

JVBMO has many good aspects, one of which is the well-balanced collaboration between basic and clinical researchers. In recent years, there has been a strong demand for practical application of results obtained from basic research, and it is very encouraging to see many examples at JVBMO where the excellent outcome of basic research has led to clinical applications that have had a significant social impact.

The vigor of young researchers is a point of pride for JVBMO. We believe that the strength of JVBMO lies in the fact that the collaborative research fostered by “JVBMO Young Researchers' Meeting” has led to a high level of vascular research. I hope that young researchers will actively participate in the management of JVBMO and foster an environment in which many members can feel that JVBMO is their home through horizontal ties of the same generation.

Another strength of JVBMO is its active international exchange. We will serve as a Partnering Society of International Vascular Biology Meeting (IVBM) which will be held in San Francisco in 2022. We will also cooperate with Australia, China and Korea to organize Asia-Australia Vascular Biology Meeting (AAVBM), which will be held in Korea in 2023. Although face-to-face international exchanges are difficult these days amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope to disseminate the achievement of JVBMO both domestically and internationally.

JVBMO will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024. We believe that the further evolution of JVBMO is essential to the development of life sciences around the world, as it continues to support vascular biology researches in Japan and will continue to be a gathering place for cutting-edge international researchers.

Although there are various problems such as the severe environment surrounding research, and the finances, we would like to solve these issues with the help of our members. I will do my best for the further development of JVBMO, which has been built up by many respected predecessors. I thank you in advance for your guidance and encouragement.
